A memoir of thirty years teaching English in Arabia.
Paul Rogers left the UK in 1982 after nearly a decade teaching in the British state system. He took a job in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and for the next thirty years, worked almost exclusively in different Arabian countries. This book is an honest and affectionate look at the life he led, the people he met and the experiences that shaped him. To many people, the Arab world is a bit of a mystery or viewed rather negatively. This book is a candid examination of a culture and way of life that is very different from the way people live in Europe and America. It is also humorous, thought provoking, occasionally tragic but always eminently readable.
